The Gone-to-the-other-shore Wisdom Sutra The other shore is the opposite of this shore. So what is “the other” and what is “this”? In the appearance of the bridge there is the appearance of two different realities: wood or material and something other than wood or non-material. “This shore” is the realm of material and “the other shore” is the realm of non-material. “Gone-to-the-other-shore” is leaving the realm of material and entering the realm of non-material.The Diamond Sutra The main subject of The Diamond Sutra resides in this question: “Can the Thus Reached One (Tathagata) seen through his body?” The answer is: “No”. The Buddha took a very easy example. The body (material, matter) does not make the Thus Reached One (person, thing); so something else is needed to make the Thus Reached One. When the Buddha put that question, he saw two realities: material and non-material. In the Thus Reached One are the body and something else: the Buddha saw the twofold. If the body does not make the Thus Reached One, something else makes him. So in the making of the Thus Reached One, not the body but something else is the essential part.
