A remarkable true survival story from a diary of a ship’s doctor. About how the ship Diana from Hull in 1866-67 became nipped in the ice and then started a slow cold journey stuck in the pack ice, through a long arctic winter. They hoped that in the spring the crew were going to be released and then to make their way back to the Shetland isles. In the cold and perilous journey, the crew had to ration their supplies and besides suffering from the cold and scurvy they had to put up with being crushed by ice. They even had to resort to burning parts of the ship. They were finally released in spring after being stuck in pack ice for over 6 months.
