Synopsis

A drug deal gone bad results in Sayed Sayed, a Yemeni convenience store owner, being charged with the murder of Roberto Gomez, a Hispanic farmhand. Pleading guilty to the crime may be the only thing that will save Say from the death penalty. Fred Anderson, who is appointed to represent Say, finds that a number of prominent citizens in the small town of Delta, Louisiana, have an inordinate interest in the guilty plea offer made by Assistant District Attorney Charles "Quick Six" Montgomery. Anderson and Watson Williams, a talented investigator, try to determine why people are so interested in the potential plea despite threats and coercion. Anderson and several other characters in the book first appeared in "Claude's Last Ride", Jim Crigler's first novel.
