Throughout a distinguished career in journalism, he developed a deep appreciation for observation, storytelling, and the details that reveal larger truths about the human experience-qualities that continue to shape his poetry today. Hedgpeth is the author of the poetry collection Literary Figures and the nonfiction work What They Did There: Profiles from the Battle of Gettysburg. His writing reflects a lifelong fascination with the ways people navigate love, loss, resilience, and personal transformation. Whether writing poetry or prose, he brings a keen eye for detail and a thoughtful, reflective voice to every subject he explores. Now retired from journalism, Hedgpeth remains an active poet and writer.
