The Jet Will Fly!
How to Overcome the Weight of the WorldThe weight of the world is only as heavy as you think it is.Johnnie E. "Jet" Jones is a native of Americus, Georgia, and grew up during the turbulent civil rights era of the 1950s and '60s. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and General Daniel "Chappie" James, Johnnie had the lofty dream of becoming a pilot in the United States Air Force. Yet, at times, it felt like the weight of the world was holding him down. He was Black, poor, fatherless, and living on the wrong side of the Seaboard Railroad tracks while being raised by a hardworking single parent and mother of six. THE JET WILL FLY was the motto he adopted early in life, and these extremely powerful words magically propelled him out of poverty into the wild blue yonder and the friendly skies. This book will inspire you to prepare your mind to triumph over the weight of the world and the burdens of life. There are four basic principles of flight needed for you to takeoff and soar. Most of all, you are urged to use this book to find the faith to thrust you forward and the knowledge that will gracefully lift you up to overcome the weight of the world and drag of despair. Johnnie Edward Jones Jr. is an ambition man from Americus Georgia who rose from poverty to become a successful military and airline pilot as well as a distinguished leader and civil rights activist. Raised as the youngest of six by a single parent housekeeper during the latter days of the civil rights era, Johnnie defied the odds and used his service in the United States Air Force as a springboard for a promising career in aviation.Through sheer determination, Johnnie developed a bold eight-year plan to help his ailing mom and prepare for the rigorous yearlong undergraduate pilot training course. He served four years as an active-duty T-38 and F-4E aircraft mechanic in the Air Force and used his GI benefits to get a bachelor's degree from Clark College. After graduating from Clark, Johnnie completed Air Force Officer Training School and started pilot training in March 1981. On March 18, 1982, he was awarded an aeronautical certificate and began his career as an Air Force Reservist pilot flying the C-130 Hercules, and ultimately flew the Boeing 747/757/767/777/787 at United Airlines. He retired in 2019 after accumulating over fifteen thousand hours flying around the world and spending over thirty years at United Airlines as a flight officer.Aside from his successful airline career, he found the time to serve his community. His inspiration from participating in the civil rights movement as a child led him to become a dynamic local NAACP leader in Fayette County Georgia. Johnnie is proud to have created the term AFRICAMERICA to represent the Colored, Negro, Black, African American people, and their unique cultural experience in America. He resides in the Atlanta, Georgia area and is laying the groundwork for what he calls AFRICAMERICA AIRLINES to provide airline service between the United States and the African continent.
