He was previously for twenty-three years rector of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford, New York, and served as Assistant Minister at St. John's Lafayette Square, the "Church of the Presidents" in Washington, DC.

The Very Rev Ian S. Markham is the dean of Virginia Theological Seminary and professor of theology and ethics. He is a priest associate at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA.
