Synopsis

Poetic Hold-Up seeks to push the boundaries of poetry. The author is in love with languages and aims at redefining their use in her works. Sudanese Arabic, Hebrew, Danish, Icelandic, and Pashto/Dari find their place in this iconoclast collection. As a French person writing in English, she writes not only about her homeland but also about such places like Coney Island, Tuscany, Istanbul, Tibet, and St. Petersburg. In a lyrical or contemporary language, the author explores languages and genres, from Danish royalties to Cockney Rhyming Slang. Get off the beaten tracks of poetry now! In the six thematic sections of this book you will read about the essence of poetry, but also contemporary, world, multilingual, romantic, and historical poetry. The poems here offer indeed a broad variety of topics: war, love, God, but also soccer, ghosts, or an undeciphered parchment are marvelous opportunities to write poetically.
