Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has seemingly burst into public consciousness with sudden vigor. Previously relinquished to computer science journals, it erupted as the unrelenting topic of public media with most of the furor surrounding chatbots, like ChatGPT. Although many educators began worrying about the implications of AI in student learning and creative activity, this book will demonstrate that AI can be harnessed as a source of inspiration and meaningful instruction. With an emphasis on useful classroom strategies as well as a consideration of the ethics of AI, this book seeks to start a conversation in this nascent area of research and practice. The primary focus is on the use of AI in the secondary English classroom, but educators in other disciplines will find plenty of ideas and information.

Clarice M. Moran is associate professor of English Education and the Site Director of the Appalachian Mountains Writing Project at Appalachian State University.
Melanie Hundley, Ph. D., is a professor of the practice of English education at Vanderbilt University. Her teaching and scholarship focuses on digital and multimodal composition, teacher preparation, and young adult literature. She teaches writing methods courses and young adult literature.
Ewa McGrail is a leader in literacy research whose publications and work reflect interests in digital writing and new media composition, copyright and media literacy, and technology use in teaching and learning. She also explores the experiences of students and educators from outgroups or who are otherwise not in the mainstream.
Mary F. Rice is assistant professor of literacy at the University of New Mexico.
