Synopsis

Purpose in Prayer: A Stirring Call to Deeper Faith and Persistent Communion with God

Edward McKendree Bounds (1835-1913), commonly known as E.M. Bounds, was an American attorney, Methodist minister, and prolific writer on the subject of prayer. Born in Missouri, Bounds initially practiced law before feeling called to the ministry. He served as a Confederate army chaplain during the Civil War and later devoted his life to preaching, writing, and extensive prayer. Although little recognized during his lifetime, his works on prayer were published posthumously and have since become foundational texts in Christian devotional literature. Bounds's writings emphasize the necessity, power, and effectiveness of prayer, encouraging believers to live lives of earnest and unwavering spiritual devotion.

Purpose in Prayer is one of E.M. Bounds' most passionate works, offering a profound meditation on the essential role of prayer in the Christian life. Through stirring examples and practical instruction, Bounds challenges readers to approach prayer not as a formality, but as a vital, dynamic force that shapes lives and moves the hand of God. His writing is marked by a deep conviction that persistent, fervent prayer is the means by which faith becomes action. Rich in encouragement and timeless in message, Purpose in Prayer continues to inspire all who seek a deeper, more purposeful relationship with God.
