Synopsis
In the midst of his worst business day ever, while working the biggest deal he’s ever done, successful young investment banker Brandon Marsh learns of the death of his beloved Uncle Charlie, Bran's last relative. To arrange his uncle’s funeral and to safeguard Charlie's estate, Bran flies from Boston to Reed, a little town on the Western Kansas plains. With help from friends, business partners, and a blue notebook, Bran discovers the magnitude of Charlie’s personal and financial investments in the people of Reed and the surrounding region. Bran is torn between replacing Charlie as Reed’s principal benefactor versus continuing his successful investment banking career. Are the roles mutually exclusive? Bran is dumbfounded to learn Charlie’s funeral will be a big event, drawing national television coverage to both the funeral and his dilemma. Bran struggles to finish his big deal, manage Charlie’s funeral, comprehend his uncle’s legacy, get control of the huge estate, cope with a murder threat, and make significant personal decisions, all while promoting his newly acknowledged love affair with Natalie, a young widow and friend from his youth. Bran comes to understand the blessing of giving as he is helped by Natalie, friends, and a small town pastor while he faces one bewildering event after another.
