Inspired by the voices of the Me Too movement, M.E.K. (/mēk/) takes us on a journey from childhood to womanhood as she struggles to find herself within the context of generational abuse, female stereotypes, religious dogmas, and oppressive gender roles. Masterfully blending a rich tapestry of emotions, sounds, silences, and visuals by utilizing space, text, and format on each page M.E.K. achieves a new and unique style of poetic expression while offering the reader a healing catharsis. Each poem offers the reader an added layer of visual imagery creating a physical picture from text that deepens connection to the content. Raw and unashamedly vulnerable, M.E.K. reminds us that we are not alone as we discover a shared resiliency: "It is through our trials and tribulations that we have something to say. It is by speaking our truth that we break free of our past to live bravely in the present calmly facing the unknown because we know and own our strength forged within the fire of our experience. We break generational cycles, oppressive gender roles, we rise above abuse, and hope through the pain as we journey together along the path of self-transformation to self-liberation and love." - M.E.K.
