Poems concentrate language and thought. While each poem aims to express its own integrity as an art object, collections offer a representative sample of how, over time, a writer thinks about and practices the craft of manipulating language for meaning and lyricality. E. L. Risden is Professor of English at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. He has published twenty-seven books including scholarship, fiction, poetry, translation, and a textbook. He is currently working on a science fiction novel and a scholarly study of Shakespeare and spirituality.
