The beautiful poems contained in Muse of Light: The Sunflower continue the tradition of the use allusion to evoke the themes of the classic poets, particularly those from the Tang Dynasty, and emanating from the ancient creation legends of the universe with its central notion of the inseparable connection between nature and the humans and the Daoist and Buddhist philosophies that are pervasive and guide the lives and aspirations of the people. Ancient Chinese poets often emphasized the impermanence of life and the desire to leave behind something enduring.

Muse of Light: The Sunflower is a Chinese-English book of poetry published as the eighth book edition of selected poems released by the Muse of Light WeChat Account with Poetess Leng Tong the editor-in-chief and translated by Professor Wu Yongqiang, who has also translated and published a host of other books, such as Muse of Light: People and Nature, Muse of Light: The Morning Glow, Three Hundred Tang Poems, and Three Hundred Song Poems. No other nation so admires and holds dear the poems and poets from ancient times to the present than the people of China. Recitation of poetry is a traditional means of imparting wisdom and moral values, forming a vital part of the nation's identity. Inevitably, Chinese poetry is rooted in Daoist reverence for nature, Confucian ideals of harmony, and Buddhism with its imagery, of mountains, rivers, and nature, which encourage introspection and a profound connection to the universe. These influences intertwine with the creation myths and customs of China's ancient polytheistic folk religions, which continue to shape the customs and rhythms of daily life. This delightful book of poems, written by a relatively unknown group of poets, beautifully reflects Chinese poetic traditions and is artfully presented to the English-speaking reader. The translator's work is pivotal, bridging two worlds by capturing the nuances of Chinese imagery, symbolism, and themes while adapting them to the fluid rhythms of Western free verse. Unlike more rigid classical translations, these contemporary poems proffer a modern sensibility, of universal truths wrapped in the vivid imagery and subtle allusions of Chinese poetic tradition.
