Synopsis

Cryptoid is a book about monsters - giant monsters, tiny monsters, robot monsters, cosmic monsters. Some work for the benefit of humankind, others are agents of chaos. These bizarre creatures are depicted in a series of interconnected stories, which take place within different planes of existence. Trippy and deadpan, the stories share a perspective seen from a world gone horribly wrong (sound familiar?) Haven's comics, at first glance, look like standard genre fiction, but upon closer reflection become as disorienting as a house of mirrors, as layers are peeled back and worlds behind worlds are revealed, including our own, despite the fantasy trappings. These surrealist, self-reflective, and superbly rendered comics surprise at every turn and showcase an inherent joy for the comics medium.
