In Many a Winding Turn, Allen Cook looks back on six decades of living (with all the laughter, heartbreak, and absurdity that come with it) and invites us along for the ride. Through short, personal stories, he captures moments that might seem small at the time but somehow stay with you for years: the ones that make you laugh out loud, question everything, or quietly change the way you see the world.
His reflections span the spectrum-from the comical to the profound-but always circle back to what's most essential: the search for meaning, connection, and grace amid life's chaos.
For anyone who has ever found beauty in hindsight or humor in their own missteps, Many a Winding Turn is a companionable, unapologetically human reminder that the road we travel-no matter how winding-is worth every step.

Allen Cook is a retired cartographer, arthritic grandfather, and husband to the world's most patient nurse. Prone to wanderlust, introspection, and the occasional pining regret, he balances life with moments of wonder, gratitude, and an incurable fondness for dogs and small children.Raised in a series of small towns in western North Carolina as the son of a Methodist preacher, Allen feels most at home in small-town life-surrounded by loved ones and pacified with generous servings of ice cream. For most of his 65 years, his life has been measured in seasons of college basketball and major league baseball. His carefully plotted athletic career ended early, undone by gravity on the basketball court and an outfield range of only 400 square inches on the baseball diamond.
