The Constitution of India begins with justice social, economic and political. The failue to render justice has serious deleterious effects at many levels. It corrupts politicians. It leads to the failure of the institutions of governance. It results in a lack of law enforcement measures. The severely affected are the small offenders and the below poverty-line people. Above all, it affects the rights of the people. One of the most import rights severely affected by corruption is freedom. If there is corruption, there will be no freedom. If there is freedom, there will be no corruption. Equally important is the right to equality – Article 14 of the Constitution of India. The act of corrupting the system is far more heinous than the act of receiving bribe. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, before becoming the Chief Justice of India said,” Many things - that are less than desirable - are happening in the Supreme Court of India and unless that institution is saved, democracy would not survive in India”. For this, everyone must do his duty consistent with the saying, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot: together we can do great things”.Whether he steered the court to do great things or not is the dominant theme of this book.
