Synopsis
John Conway had lost the will to live after the death of his wife and daughter. He sat in a church pew, wondering why he was even there, but...he had nowhere else to be. A young girl, approximately the age of his dead daughter came bounding into the church like a fox trying to escape bloodthirsty hunters. She disappears under the pew where he is seated as several large men barge their way into the sanctuary. As John looks down at the girl, their eyes meet and hers are sending a message of 'please help me'. He covers her with his coat. Whomever these men are, they are armed and dangerous. One thing is sure, John Conway will not let them hurt this child now that she is in his care. The two brutes work for a short overweight scientist, named Dr. Amherst. The girl, Katie, has been held prisoner by him for several years. He purports himself to be studying young people with psychic powers. His goal: to bring those powers into total fruition, but his purpose has nothing to do with philanthropy. He is going to sell them to the highest bidder for military purposes. John makes it clear to Amherst that he, John, is now the protector of Katie and Amherst had better leave her alone if he wants to live. Amherst backs off. Katie and John leave town on a greyhound bus, then buy a car and travel to an old military friend of John's named Frank. Frank agrees to let him and Katie stay as they make a plan for their future together. John finds hope and feels he has a second chance at a normal life with the young girl who is the same age as his daughter who passed away. He feels that his daughter is guiding him to help this child. Katie feels she has found someone strong, kind, and fatherly whom she can trust. It is a new start for both of them. Maybe they can live a normal life without being chased by Dr. Amherst and his thugs.
