Newton’s first law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This book is about a part of Newton’s law. Basically, what I’m saying here is for every action there’s a reaction. That reaction probably isn’t equal or opposite, but whatever your action is, stuff happens when you act. Much of the time the reaction to your acts isn’t especially obvious. Your act – for example, taking out the garbage – is considered the responsible thing to do. It’s what millions of thoughtful citizens do. But over time the act of taking out the garbage creates an overwhelming problem. This book is about such problems.
