Synopsis

This book is a look back in time at the soul and mind of a boy and young adult coming of age through poetry written in my middle school years up to early adulthood and enlisting in the military. The poems contained in this book are the unadulterated, as-written versions created by my hand as I coped with a broken home, adolescent love, heart break and an escape into adulthood. I had kept the poems I wrote as a child and young adult. Rereading them was a journey into the mind of a child dealing with swirling emotions and a maelstrom of stress which really gave perspective for what was involved in the making of my typical to some, atypical to others, American story. The writings contained herein were an outlet and coping mechanism for the enormous weight of emotions I was dealing with as a child and are a unique peak into a reality that many young hearts and minds must endure. I hope in publishing the works I made in my journey that maybe some other kid out there will see the positive outlet of writing and likewise use it as a tool to get by. I hope any who read this book understand through my words that they aren’t the only one to feel such emotions and that if someone else can make it through the other side of childhood despair and heart break, they can too.
