Synopsis

"Goodbye to Another River"Loving the outdoors as he did, Jerry read many books and one of his favorites was a gift to him from his wife that was written by John Graves called “Goodbye to a River”. So impressed was he that he contacted Graves and asked to meet him. They found an easy friendship and a bond in their love of the rivers of Texas. And with Graves’ blessings when he wrote his own book he named it “Goodbye to Another River”.In this book he shared tales of his trips, with highlights and lessons learned which nature is very good at dealing out to humans who dare to walk on the wild side. First there were short day trips getting a feel his canoe and planning for the big event - a 32 day trek with his fishin' and huntin' friend Bob Hood, Outdoors Editor for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Then he would go on to spend another 6 days alone on the Clear Fork taking a three-, five-, six-, 10, 15, and a 22-day solo trip in 2006 to celebrate his 60th birthday... The Clear Fork had turned into an obsession. Intrigued by the history of the massive west Texas ranches long held in family operations raising cattle along the banks of the Clear Fork he shares enough of that history to create a link between past and present and its effect on the river. The 32-day, 230-mile trek was made by Dean and his compadre’ Bob Hood who were the first men (and still the only ones) to successfully complete a canoe trek from Fort Phantom Hill to Possum Kingdom Lake. Note: the e-book has color photos and more added than the paperback because some were just not as easy to see the beauty of in black and white.
