A collection of short stories written in 2002. The stories are from a year long trip from mainland to the coast of Georgia. Tales of love, love lost and coping with divorce. Following a two year journey that starts in James' hometown of South Carolina and leads to his time in Savannah Georgia. No stranger to the eccentric city of Savannah, James attended the Savannah College of Art and Design as an Illustration major in 1990 and fell hopelessly in love with all things Savannah. Eventually moving to the Bahamas and then Mexico, James still calls Savannah his true home.
The first Book by author James Heaton, it includes the original version of Elizabeth Jenkins and What the Tide Brings In, which would later be revised for the 2021 release of A Compass Star.
Born in 1972 on the 21st of July, James shares a birthday with his idol, Ernest Hemingway and this book shows the influence Hemingway had on James' writing style. A Long Drive to the Coast is a unique view into beginnings of James Heatons writing, a true coming to terms with life changes that influence him as a writer.
Other works by James include his 2019 release, Life with Bipolar Disorder, which would grow to become a popular podcast, and blog. The Kindle Vella series, I Am, Death and Crescent of Time show James' venture into fiction and are currently available exclusevly on Amazon.
