Synopsis

A driving rain engenders a chance encounter in an empty parking lot in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A lone figure stands drenched and shivering in an empty parking lot in the cold rain of a late winter storm in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has been running aimlessly until her legs could go no further, after precipitously tearing her heart and her soul from the man she thought was the love of her life in one Harold Endicott, the nephew of one of the wealthiest women in New Orleans, Louisiana. Moments earlier she discovered a salacious, evil side of him, kept hidden under a polished veneer of Southern gentility.A more distant, and nearly as wrenching past is responsible for Sean Allen McDowell being in that same parking lot at that very moment in time. Sean is an engaging and popular Pediatrician outwardly, but who inwardly finds himself more and more often feeling alone and out of place in his new environs in Santa Fe. He was driven there from the loneliness of a prior marriage and painful divorce in San Diego, only to rediscover it in Santa Fe. As he is leaving his office for the day, anticipating another evening of solitude, Sean encounters the sad visage of the lone figure, drenched and shivering in the cold rain. Something more than just their eyes have connected that evening. The acceptance of that connection does not come immediately, and not without additional pain and strife for them both. Sean coaxes the lonely figure out of the rain and into his office. Eventually, he convinces her to spend the night in the guest room in his home before dealing with the tatters of her life in the morning. One night becomes three eventful days, bringing them ever closer to each other, though she steadfastly insists on remaining nameless. At the brink of their two souls uniting, she abruptly leaves, with Sean never having discovered her true name (he knows her only as Wednesday, after the day of the week they met), and with only the promise that if she slays her demons before they slay her, she will return. Back in New Orleans, she sets out to deal with the demons she discovered in Harold, but she soon finds herself in over her head, stepping into a maelstrom of events she could never have expected.
