Synopsis

The Ancient Atheist, R. C. Gibson, put together this little red book for liberals. He feels complete, true liberals intrinsically distrust authority. As a result, they will challenge the authority of religion, the military and the power of money, in the process becoming atheists, pacifists and socialists. He provides plenty of quotes from humanity's best minds in each area. For example, H.L. Mencken on religion: "Men become civilized, not in proportion to their willingness to believe, but in their readiness to doubt." "Christian theology is not only opposed to the scientific spirit; it is opposed to every other form of rational thinking."And Albert Einstein on the military: "The worst outcrop of herd life, the military system which I abhor-this plague spot of civilization ought to be abolished with all possible speed." "It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder." "Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind."From Jawaharlal Nehru on socialism: "The law of life should not be the competition of acquisitiveness, but cooperation, the good of each contributing to the good of all. "The forces of capitalist society, if left unchecked, tend to make the rich richer and the poor poorer." And, Gibson adds his own caustic commentary when he deems appropriate to bring these great quotes from great minds into the present time frame. A little red book for independent, rational thinkers.
