Synopsis

A medieval evil play based on greed, lust, revenge, murder, betrayal, where everyone distrusts and everyone else. Sickorus, a knight, is the main character—the play delves deep into his personality—and the way he goes about trying to get what he wants, is manipulative ways, his “silver tongue,” his betrayal of friends for illicit love, weaves and twists into a dramatic conclusion. The play is filled with innuendo and double-speak, parts are ironic, parts are funny, even comical, but the actions of the main characters are far from funny, indeed, quite tragic. The central theme is power; the roles they play in trying to hold, or obtain power, showing the lengths they are prepared to go to for its attainment. The action takes place in winter in several locations in Five Acts over 38 scenes, a lot of the dialogue has a double meaning; words are twisted because lives are twisted. Yet, despite the play being set in medieval Britain, the time period could be looked upon as an irrelevance; it could be any time period, for the play is about human nature and behaviour at its worse given certain situations where everyone is after that most intoxicating of elixirs, power.
