Synopsis
Born into a remote mining community, a miner's son, William Kyd is destined for a life in the mines. But, from a young age, his father encourages him to find his own path in life and not have others choose it for him. After his father's sudden premature death, a distraught Kyd enters the mines right out of high school and falls in with the wrong crowd and lives a life of exploitation, manipulation, and wanton dissolution. Then he meets the love of his life who shows him a different way how to live, and quitting the mines, Kyd decides to go to college in quest for the Great American Dream. But between shiftless, incompetent co-workers, inane corporate policies and a business environment that discourages hard work, Kyd's dreams become more and more elusive. Frustrated and discouraged, Kyd contemplates abandoning his dreams all together when he encounters help and empathy in the most unlikely of all places who reveals to him what it means to live From Shadow into Night.
Poignant and compelling, Kyd's story is the story of America: of unrealized dreams and broken promises, lies and deceit, and the indomitable souls who are just trying to keep it all together. But it's also the reader's story. A topical re-telling of what readers experience and know to be true in their daily lives and whether it leaves you laughing, dismal, or enraged it asks the reader to question, like Kyd, does the Great American Dream even exist anymore?
The author has an Associate's degree in Electronic Technology and has worked for Fortune 200 companies as a technician for 20 years. But after his livelihood was outsourced overseas, he went back to college to study a lifelong interest in literature obtaining a Bachelor's degree in English from California State University, Chico focusing on creative writing. He has dared to try to write literature and in his small way is trying to make America the literary hub that it once was. He resides in Ohio and this is his first novel.
