Synopsis

Six short stories of whimsy and imagination, and a novella, wherein a Boston Whaler is found floating in Casco Bay, empty. The man who should have been in the Whaler was Jake Pomerleau, who had recently raised four million dollars from a group of investors to develop a waterfront parcel into a marina with condominiums in Portland, ME. The money is missing, too, and Lev Rachmann has been retained to find Pomerleau and the dough.Among the victims of Pomerleau’s apparent embezzlement are two financial planners: David Halperin, who introduced Pomerleau to the other investors, and Simon Atwell, Halperin’s former partner.Born in Israel, Lev met a beautiful young American tourist while he was on leave from the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces), and when his service was up he followed her home, courted and married her. He became a cop and Emily taught school, but Emily fell victim to Alzheimer’s disease at an early age, and now Lev is a P.I., and a widower. At least the hunt for Pomerleau will distract Lev’s mind from his sorrow, for a time.
