During a violent earthquake in the retro-futuristic Inner-Territories, Winnie’s legs are crushed by a shattered mirror. She awakes alone and confused in a rehabilitation hospital uncertain of Roark, her partner’s whereabouts. Consumed by questions of trust and love, her days are filled with the painful business of healing while at night she dreams of Wynne, a woman much like herself, struggling on the 1865 dust plains of Kansas. Wife of a rancher, Wynne faces her own healing journey as a tragic upheaval sets out to destroy her family. Paradoxically, her own dreams glimpse Winnie’s ultramodern world which contain ideas and images she cannot begin to understand. Each learns from the other, and as their dreams become more and more vivid, they are forced to ask who is the dreamer and who merely the dream? And what will it take for both not only to survive, but to heal?
