Alvaro Quadros was born on Pico Island in the Azores, John "Budge" McNair was born on the coast of Nova Scotia in Canada. When they were children their families moved them to Gloucester Massachusetts for a better life. Both men became fishermen and in the early 1900s lived that dangerous live while trying to raise their own families, survive the treacherous North Atlantic, World War I, The Great Flu epidemic, and the many other things that could kill them and their families. This is a book about two fishermen and the tragedies and adventures that came from living at the beginning of the 20th century.
