People give up things all the time. Drugs, smoking, alcohol, chocolate. You read these amazing success stories of people stronger than the vice-like grip of their addictions. Inspirational stuff. So why the Christian Fuchs could I not give up football? I've seen Trainspotting (twice), heroin looks about as improbable to quit as it gets and yet people succeed. All I had to do was quit lousy Aston Villa FC (insert your own Villa manager joke here) and the footballing world as a whole, of which it is a tiny speck. The best speck. But a speck nevertheless. This should have been as straightforward as a German win on penalties. Soulless stadiums, corporate machines, global branding, obscene amounts of money, Roy Keane, saturated coverage, robotic players and my team being about as useful as a trophy room at Birmingham City....And yet.....And yet despite it all, I keep coming back for more. This is the story of how I blatantly failed in giving up football for the 2018-19 season. Unlike my team who managed to successfully give up football from about 2011 to 2017. Remember: Any little dig at "your" team is just in jest; we are all friends here. And if I failed to "have a go" at your team, my sincerest apologies. I promise I'll get round to them next time. Thanks for stopping by. Is that the end of my little blurb? Is it? "They think it's all over.....it is now"
