In the 25 years since Columbia and Challenger, along with the Collective, defeated the 100 strong Basel Confederation the Western Republic has been very busy establishing colonies. With colonies in the Epsilon Eridani (Eden), Tau Ceti (Atlantis) and Delta Pavonis (Delta Pav) systems to populate and then also establishing colonies in the 61 Virginis (Virginia), Lambda Aurigae (Aurigae) and Lambda Serpentis (Utopia) systems, there was plenty to keep the Grav Drive Ships busy. The three latter systems were not on the original projected colonization list for Challenger, but with the Collective and Glory Callaghan discovery of wormhole travel, these more distant systems (24 to 40 Light Years away) became possible. While the Western Republic was not going to give Grav Drive technology away, it was agreed to help the Peoples Confederation to expand into space. To that end a treaty was reached that Western Republic Grav Drive ships provided transport for the Peoples Confederation to Beta Comae Bernices (Opona). This star system is about 30 light years from Sol system and is a very suitable system for colonization. Glory and Saoi Callaghan settled on Tau Ceti, with her parents and some of her extended family, during her 10-year sabbatical. Her daughter Hope is a clone of Glory, literally, since Collective and humans cannot procreate directly. Although, with a very large genetic science assist interspecies procreation is possible. The result of that science effort was their son John, born 18 months after Hope. Also in the intervening 25 years the telemetry from the defeat of the Basel Armada in the Sol system has reached the Basel home world. The Battle Cruisers that were defeated by the Phantoms in the Epsilon Eridani and Delta Pavonis systems have also returned home. How will the Basel Confederation leadership react to the tactical information gleaned from these three actions? Will they be convinced of the Phantoms and avoid the Phantom protected space? It is time for the Western Republic to find out.
