Synopsis

Kitty and Joe are retired farmers who run a smallholding on an island off the coast of the UK. They also foster children. Each story tells of the lives and circumstances of the children who come to stay with them, from backgrounds to futures, while also telling of life on the farm and in the community. Sanctuary is set in a little village close to the cliffs, and local characters join the families of Sanctuary and Hillside farms to complete the scene. With fostering, you have to expect the unexpected, and Kitty and Joe look after mainly pre-teenage children, some have been abused, some stay while their families are in crisis or a parent is in hospital , a surprise baby also makes a Christmas appearance, and a mother and baby also come to stay while they wait to move to a mother and baby unit on the mainland. Each story is unique, happy endings and tragedy, hope and loss. Kitty and Joe try to offer a stable and therapeutic home to all who are sent to them.
