Synopsis

Rule of Life, Core Habits, Faith Practices, Marks of Discipleship....We are discovering that different churches name them differently, depending on their particular language and way of being church. The variety in names is more like local dialects of the same language spoken in a geographical area. There's richness and texture in each dialect, spicing up language in winsome ways. Yet, at the heart of it, they are each speaking the same language. This is how a rule of life functions, with variations appearing among different churches, while each describes spiritual practices or disciplines which form us more fully as disciples of Jesus Christ. In our complex and busy world, we do ourselves a favor when we identify our rule of life, inviting one another to common practice of our faith. I'm grateful to Ircel Harrison and Robin Sandbothe for this strong contribution to the Making the Shift book and resource series. We receive the requests for this kind of resource after a church has done a Making the Shift Weekend and MTS Small Groups using the Field Guide. They are often primed then for identifying their rule of life, ready to engage each other around significant spiritual practice. So whenever you are ready, this resource will provide good guidance for identifying your rule of life. I'm grateful to these two friends and colleagues in ministry for producing this resource as part of their Christian vocation.May God bless you and your church as you join God's mission to bring the kingdom to earth, as it is in heaven.
