The missions of nonprofit organizations are worthy of honor. Those who are called to lead the mission have a responsibility to meet the needs of the people within the community. But this cannot be done effectively or efficiently when honor is lacking. People often feel drawn to mission-based work because they want to help other people. But without a clear understanding of how the system works, how to communicate with others, and how to conduct oneself with integrity, the experience may not be the best it could be. When honor is combined with other important character traits, it produces teams that operate with compassion and excellence. Honor on its own isn’t enough, which is why The Honor Equation is so important. In this book, I offer several equations that – when used properly – can propel your nonprofit organization to the next level of excellence. These equations have been tried and tested, and I present examples to show how I implemented them in my own career. If “something” is lacking in your nonprofit, that “something” could be honor. Together we can bring it back, and create a human services organization that has fulfilled, thriving employees and a community of people who are better as a result.
