The Underside of Wars is both beautiful and ugly. It is funny and dour, inspiring and somber. Underside is not just a story about a writer, or about an alcoholic, but about the destructive, and sometimes ridiculous, world Matthew Talbot creates for himself, both inside and out, in order to be able to live with himself. Morals and lessons-learned have no place in the Underside of Wars; it is about the power of its words, and the futility of Matthew's journey.The Underside of Wars is a story about time, and about how vice and self-absorption are its greatest predators. The narrative begins deep inside Matthew Talbot’s head, from which he skews his relationships and his creative process, a sphere where innovation and vice struggle for dominion. Matthew is an aging writer with deep principles and pretensions that simultaneously make him and his writing unique, but difficult to market. He is not finished yet, however: he has one final chance to break through and achieve everything for which he has worked. Can Matthew overcome his iniquities before they drag him down into the gutter?
