Black: There are No Rules in Poetry, tells the story of a young mixed race woman as she navigates the streets of East London. This coming of age story uses the power of poetry to address issues such as race, abuse and relationships, while also touching on the feelings which many experienced during the lockdown period of 2020. The poems are broken down into three chapters, each reflecting a different stage of the main character's life. The poems are both touching and relatable, offering a true insight to what it is like growing up in a world where race is such a huge factor in survival.

Stephanie Pearson, who is half Guyanese and half English, only established herself as a writer during the lockdown period in 2020, where she released her debut collection, 'Black: There are No Rules in Poetry.' East London has always been her playground and she drew upon her experiences as inspiration for her book. She is now a mother of three boys and continues to live in East London, battling the frequent fears of inner city life and the pressures and risks which are associated with it. Stephanie would also describe herself as an activist, with a passion for implementing changes within equality through her involvement with the modern day civil rights movement. She has also founded The Black Education Project Limited, which provides teaching materials for schools to assist them with incorporating Black History into their classrooms while still meeting the National Curriculum objectives. You can find out more about the project online at www.theblackeducationproject.co.uk or on Instagram (@black.livesmatteruk). Shazan is a London based digital artist who focuses on themes such as landscapes, portraits and other minimalist designs that incorporate geometry, neutral tones and bright pops of colour. Born and raised in East London, his work is directly influenced by the variety of cultures that he has grown up around. Representation plays a pivotal role in his pieces as he aims to highlight the beauty as well as the complexities of living in a diverse world. www.ssolostudios.com Instagram: @ssoloshaz
