À propos de l'auteur

I am a mindbody coach and I help people who are struggling with addictions, chronic pain, and unwanted behaviors to initiate change in their lives. I coach using techniques and philosophies gathered from a range of disciplines and experts including cognitive behavioral therapy, Jungian dream work, hypnosis, yoga, kundalini breathwork, Reiki, Neural Linguistic Programming, Neuroscience, Integrative Nutrition, and Positive Psychology. My emphasis is on staying with a person over a period of two or three months, because research shows (and experience seems to support) that changes need time to evolve over a period of time. My primary modality is hypnotherapy, and so every session includes processes of guiding a person into a trance where their inner resources, and systemic potential to change, can come forward. I begin every session with the question, what needs to happen by the end of this session in order for you to really feel on-track with the change you are making in your life right now? People then are free to email me daily gratitude and accountability emails, and I keep in touch with them during the week with exercises and reinforcement if necessary. My background is that I am primarily known as a poet, with a reputation for taking bold risks in terms of both content and form. Recent work appears in The New Republic andThe Boston Review. I’ve got five books of poetry out there, including I, Afterlife: Essay in Mourning Time. This is a lyric essay about my father’s suicide, which I’m delighted to say is being taught in creative nonfiction courses around the country and inspiring students to tell their own difficult stories. But I also love writing about psychology and human behavior, and I have two books: Visualize Comfort: Pain Management and the Unconscious Mind as well as TrancePoetics: Your Writing Mind. I also have an essay that was a 2015 finalist for the Best American Essays anthology: Blood on the Illusion: On The Violent Side Effects of Capitalism, available on Kindle. But really, to get to the heart of why I love what I do, I have been a teacher for over twenty years. I love guiding a person into their own knowledge-base and space for inner resourcefulness...this is really what makes me love what I do with my clients, because releasing a person's inner resources so that they can heal is like the unfolding of a poem that moves a reader into a whole new state of mind.
