Synopsis

Living forever is a dream of most humans. Most people understand that it will never happen but that doesn’t stop us from stopping to think about tomorrow as though tomorrows will always be there. As we age, we begin to understand that those we love are leaving us and that someday it will be our turn. But that is someday. For those who make it into their 90s with their minds intact and their bodies still able to function, memories are important. The memories include how we got where we are when others didn’t. This book is written by Frank Aceto. Frank also thought about the longevity rules that he had set for himself. It wasn’t genetic, his family hadn’t lived through their eighties. There may have been factors of his Mediterranean birth, he was born in Italy and came to the United States when he was three. The Mediterranean people do live longer than Americans. His family was proud of him and they were all hard workers, making it through the great depression. His family like most people who lived through the Great Depression had to get through that struggle to realize that life was so much more than figuring out how to get through the day. Frank took all of that into account. He had a chance to figure out that working hard and using your mind can change your life. For Frank, it meant that he went with all the young men he knew to War. Not a war that was complicated by who had to go but a war where everyone who wasn’t sick or didn’t have thought out conscientious objections went to war. Because of his age, he went to the Great War late. Most of the war had finished but there were still warriors out in the trenches. Japan had not surrendered; the United States had not unleashed a nuclear option. Frank learned that the cartooning that he had done as a hobby and the brilliant people skills he exhibited gave him a job on a Naval magazine, a job he kept for the rest of the war. It also gave him confidence. He learned the way that many immigrants learned, they did something they loved to do and found out that they were smart. When that job was over, he learned that the thousands and thousands of military veterans wanted what he wanted, a family and some land. He was willing to start again at the bottom but learned that all the skills he’d learned in the service were transportable. He sold land to people who wanted some little property and beautiful environs. He taught other salesmen, but they didn’t have the people skills needed. He made money and he learned how to use the money to make more money by investing conservatively in stocks that paid dividends in industries that were growing. Longevity is a book which describes all the ways a human being can live the longest, healthiest life. In the second edition, Frank adds new examples, and additional thoughts about ways that longevity is experienced in one's life and in the world.
