Synopsis

In recent years the rising interest in e-learning has expanded and it has shifted its focus towards a new beginning with blended learning programmes which makes learning more accessible, engaging, relevant, flexible, reducing amount of time and exploiting ICT and training facilities. Blended learning increases the options for greater quality and quantity of human interaction in a learning environment. A community of learners can interact at anytime and anywhere because of the benefits that computer-mediated educational tools provide. The present study examined the awareness and availability of blended learning in LIS education of selected universities of North East India. From the study, it is clear that use of Blended Learning tools by LIS Teachers and students in LIS departments in universities of North East India is sluggish and getting impetus slowly. Perfectly planned Blended Learning in universities would gain better reputation in terms of quality education. The book provides a unique approach for LIS academicians to mix both traditional face to face and online learning for the fulfilment of ultimate goal of revamping LIS education in the ICT age. It seems that the use of Blended learning has a special role to play in the modernization of LIS education which can help to preserve and improve its identity and can educate the future librarians who can prove their benefit to the society by being in step with changes and advances in technology. The book has been divided into six chapters and the observations.emphasize the need to offer more training opportunities for LIS Teachers and students, to demonstrate, how Blended Learning and its tools can be applied in their works in academic LIS departments of North East India.

Dr. Deepshikha Sen is presently working as a Librarian, DPS, Jamnagar, Gujarat. She has worked as a Guest Faculty in DLISc of G. C. College, and Radha Madhav College, Silchar. She also worked in National Institute of Technology, Silchar as Library Trainee. She did her MLISc in 2012 and completed her Ph.D in Library and Information Science in 2017 under the supervision of Dr. Mukut Sarmah. She has contributed 7 research papers in different conference proceedings, journals and edited book. She has presented papers in 4 national seminars. She has attended as many as 10 conference, seminar, workshop and training programme. She possesses the practical knowledge on SOUL, KOHA, LibSys, D-Space, GDLS, CDS-ISIS. She is a member of IASLIC. Her areas of interest include LIS education, Library Automation, Library Digitization, IT application in libraries and Library Management. Dr. Mukut Sarmah is presently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science, Assam University. He did both BLISc and MLISc in Gauhati University, Assam and stood first in both. He cleared UGC-NET for Lectureship in 1997 and obtained PhD degree in 2008. Before joining the department, he worked in Pandu college and IIT, Guwahati. He is life member of ILA, IASLIC, IATLIS and MANLIBNET. He has authored two books, jointly edited conference proceedings and two other books. He has participated various seminars, conferences and workshops of national and international levels. He has contributed more than 75 research papers in different seminar / conference proceedings and journals. He was appointed as PEER REVIEWER ICCSIT 2011 held from June 10 - 12, 2011 in China and for the 3rd International Conference, ICMLC 2011 held in Singapore, during February 26-28, 2011. He has completed two Research Projects sponsored by University Grants Commission. He visited University of Colombo, Sri Lanka for presenting theme paper in the NILIS International Research Symposium in 2012. He is supervising PhD and MPhil students on different LIS areas. His fields of interest are: IT applications in libraries, library automation, information retrieval, knowledge organisation, web applications, bibliometric analysis, blended learning, e-publishing and digital library.
