The book is an outcome of a systematic review of research studies on the social impact of domestic violence on adolescent males spanning a ten years period from 2005-2015. All the included studies in the systematic review were critically appraised using the eighteen questions set out in the Caldwell et al (2011) Critical Assessment Tool. In addition, a Likert scale was used to assign a numerical value to the answers gained using the Cardwell Assessment Tool. For each individual answer to the eighteen questions in the Caldwell tool, a value was added 0=no, 1=partially and 2= yes, allowing for a maximum score of 36 for each paper, a score of 36 was deemed the highest quality. The systematic review found that there are a number of disparate ways in which domestic violence impacts on adolescent males. This book authors argued that implementation of evidence that emerged from the systematic by health and social care service professionals would result in improved patients’ experience through high-quality care, enhancing population health, reducing costs, and empowering the professionals to be more engaged and satisfied in their roles. However, several of the landmark studies initially review for this book described some of the existent barriers in healthcare systems that prevent the implementation of research evidence in practice. Thus, this book considers, in addition to the existent barriers, factors that will facilitate implementation of the evidence in health and social care practice. These authors link the systematic review findings with recommended actions so that health and social care professionals and policymakers can put the evidence in active practice to improve service users’ outcomes. Finally, these authors hope is that reader will enjoy this book as it is intended to keep them enthralled, at the same time deepening their knowledge and understanding of the use of Critical Appraisal Tools and awareness of the social impact of domestic violence on adolescence.
