Talent management is the collective approach to recruiting, retaining and developing talent within an organization for its benefit, and extends beyond the domains of Human Resource Management (HRM), leadership development initiatives or succession planning to include strategy, organizational culture, and change management. The contribution of talent management in the development of future leaders in an organization is discussed, drawing on a series of in-depth case studies into the talent management processes of 7 complex, multinational companies. Key developmental dimensions emerged from the case studies requiring decisions to be made as to an organization’s development approach, assessment and implementation plans. For example, will talent follow the same but accelerated approach to leadership development in an organization, or will they have a specialist route?
