Outside of being born again, receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit is the second most important event in a Christian's life. Jesus modeled this for us when He received the baptism with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16) and afterwards began His public ministry.

Jesus emphasized the importance of the baptism with the Holy Spirit in the disciples' lives when He instructed them to tarry in Jerusalem until they received the "Promise of the Father" and were "endued with power from on high" (Luke 24:49).

In the same way Jesus and the early Church needed the baptism with the Holy Spirit, we need the same today. Let's not live powerless lives but instead go forth in the mighty name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit!
