Students of English as a Second Language show an intense interest in the English language, and want to know more than is commonly covered in a typical class. Students asked me questions, about how and why English is the way it is. I created lesson handouts to answer the students’ questions. I’ve put the best 17 of those questions and answers in this book. This is not a complete ESL textbook. It is a supplement to any class that is being taught. It does not have to be used in a classroom. It will answer the questions of students who are not enrolled in a class of English as a Second Language. This book is currently being used in ESL classes taught by the author. Here are the 17 questions that students asked me:What’s the Difference Between “A” and “One”?What’s the Difference Between “Make” and “Do”?What’s the Difference Between “Some” and “Any”?What’s the Difference Between “Say” and “Tell”?How do you Use the Prepositions of Place and Time At, In, and On?What’s the Difference Between Can, Could, May and Might? What’s the Difference Between Either, Neither, Or, and Nor?What are all the Meanings of GET in English? What Verbs are Followed by the Gerund (-ING)?What Verbs are Followed by the Infinitive (TO)?What Verbs are Followed by Either (-ING) or (TO)?What Verbs are Followed by Neither (-ING) nor (TO)?How do You Go from Noun to Verb by Shifting the Stress Accent? How do You Go from Noun to Verb by Changing the Sound of “S”?How do You Go from Noun to Verb by Changing the Vowel Sound? How Do You Pronounce the Simple Past Tense?
