Street foods often reflect traditional local cultures and exist in an endless variety. The principal roles of food packaging are to protect food products from outside influences and damage, to contain the food, and to provide consumers with ingredient and nutritional information. The present study was carried out with the objective to study the effectiveness of nutrition counseling for eco-friendly packaging of street foods in rural and urban areas in Lucknow city. The total of 200 people were selected consisting 100 from urban and 100 from rural areas of the city. Purposive Sampling technique was used for the selection of respondents. This study was a longitudinal study. The data was collected through a developed questionnaire based on General Information, Attitude regarding packaging of street foods, Awareness regarding biodegradable packaging. Since women are supposed to take care of the family through proper food and hygiene ,63% women in rural and 65% in urban were selected of reproductive age. Also, many of them were mothers too, therefore it was necessary for them to understand the importance of biodegradable packaging for them as well as for their kids and other family members. On asking only 16% people in rural agreed on Packaging of food affects the nutritional status of food while after intervention 91% agreed to it and in urban, 30% in urban agreed before whereas 86% agreed after the counseling. Similarly, in rural only 28% were aware of the eco-friendly packaging of food and in urban 52% but after the counseling through different teaching aids, the count raised to 81% and 66% in rural and urban respectively.
