Synopsis

The fall of the second millennium democracies and the consequent disintegration of world order in the third millennium will lead to chaos and slaughter on a massive scale. The tenth- millennium lecturer tells us that the initial trigger will be the declaration of Global Jihad by extremist adherents of Islam, followed by WW III. The nuclear, cyber and guerrilla warfare will descend to horrors which our civilization has tried to avoid via treaties and international courts. The Jihadists’ policy of public beheadings and widespread slaughter to terrorize their foes will be directed at non-Muslims and Muslims alike. Their enemies will take revenge by destroying centers of Islamic power and killing or exiling all the Muslims that they can. This debilitating conflict will lead to death, hatreds and destruction of the existing infrastructure, while plagues and natural disasters will cause millions more to die for lack of assistance which might have been available in pre-war days. The dystopian chaos of the following Regression will last more than five centuries. Global population will fall to 3 billion, rather than the nine billion that is currently predicted. This depopulation trend continues well into the Revival period in the fourth millennium, until only two billion remain. The Revival will see rational and humane behavior start to re-emerge, and new international bodies formed intent on preventing the tragedies of the past millennia. Despite the devastation, some centers of knowledge and some progress will survive. Most importantly, we will be better able to seek rational social solutions with the aid of advanced computers. New governing structures will be obligated to pursue rational policies, and elected representatives put under enforceable strictures. The new democracies will be more responsive and more balanced. They will be proof against the extremes of ideologies and the corrupting influences of the past. Exhaustion, a world-wide desire for peace, a global Peace Force equipped for cyber warfare as well as violence, Muslim reformation, and the guiding principles of eschatology will finally give us world peace and stability that will endure through the succeeding 6 millennia, until the year 9000 CE when the lectures are delivered.
