Composed between the years 1999-2019, this collection of brooding, surreal poems are doorways into intense emotional embattlements. Written in free verse and lyrical form, Adam Ray Marquez digs ardently into the psyche to dredge and enumerate his feelings into sometimes disturbing yet deeply romanticized poetic eulogies.
The former guitarist and songwriter for the Northern California Melodic Death Metal band Held In Scorn, Marquez paints with brushes at times reminiscent of the Decadent and Confessionalism eras of Charles Baudelaire and Sylvia Plath respectively, but with the somber lyrical aggression found in bands like Glassjaw, Katatonia, and Deafheaven.
Photographs contained in the book are by actress, photographer, and writer Lori Cardille, daughter of longtime Pittsburgh TV personality Bill “Chilly Billy” Cardille, and known for her role in the cult classic 1985 zombie horror film Day of the Dead written and directed by the late legendary filmmaker George A. Romero. Lori was recently featured in the Netflix hit series Stranger Things in the premiere episode of Season 3 where the main cast is watching Romero's Day of the Dead film in the mall theater.
