J.H. Merle D’Aubigné was an eminent historian who lived in the 19th century and THE premier historian writing of the Reformation Era. This particular work focuses on the personal and political life of the great Titan of the seventeenth century, Oliver Cromwell, rather than his military career. Although this book has been reprinted many time, this edition has annotations which give insight into Cromwell's world as well as translations of certain Latin phrases, so often used at that time. The actual work remains as it was in the original publication. An Appendix has been added, which reveals what became of Cromwell's family in the years following his death. A brief biography of Dr. D’Aubigné has also been added.
