A few years ago, while he was in college, Immanuel Burney attended a Military Child Education Coalition conference. The conference lasted two days and its main goal was to bring teachers, school administrators, counselors, and parents together to discuss and learn effective ways to help “military-connected” children develop resilience while enduring the trauma and stress of a parent(s) being deployed. As an aspiring teacher at the time, he imagined that he would someday have the opportunity to serve these military-connected kids in the classroom. However, he changed his major from English Education to traditional English to be exposed to more of the classics. In doing so, he was able to hone his writing skills which were advantageous to his career as a writer. Thus, even though he is not in the classroom, he decided he could still be part of the solution by writing a children’s book that would serve as a tool for helping kids cope with their parents being deployed. Hence the manifestation of “Kidd Panda: There’s Nothing to Worry About.”
