Ben Crane and Capt. Henry Black grew up together, fought side by side in the Civil War and following Lee’s surrender to Grant, traveled west, and joined forces to establish the Stars & Bars Ranch, one of the finest ranches in the Panther Creek Valley of southeast Wyoming. Years of working together formed an unbreakable bond between the two. Upon retiring, Capt. Black sold the Stars & Bars Ranch to an eastern Land & Cattle Company with the stipulation Ben would have a lifelong home on the ranch if he wanted. Capt. Black moved his family to Laramie where his only daughter would have an opportunity for higher education. Ben Crane, on the other hand, wanted nothing more out of life than to live out his days working on the ranch. In Ben’s mind all things were perfect until his fiftieth birthday when the current ranch manager, Mortimer Hardgrove fired him, claimed all his worldly possessions including his horse, and ordered him off the ranch before sunrise. Struggling through the night in a terrible thunderstorm, Ben managed to find refuge at the neighboring ranch, owned by Web Jackson. Firing an able-bodied cowhand for no apparent reason other than his age seemed strange, if not outrageous, however this was just the beginning of many bizarre happenings. In the following days Ben discovers the water flow in Little Panther Creek has been deliberately diverted so the Jackson’s ranch would suffer. A couple of Hardgrove’s men ambushed Ben when he made this discovery and the same seedy characters have been running rough shod over the Jackson household, trying to run them off their ranch while Web Jackson lay fatally ill. Other mysteries begin to unfold in what seems to be a master plan to kill Ben and Capt. Black, as well as the Jackson’s. But why? And who is behind all this? Join Ben Crane and Capt. Black as they fight for their lives and the safety of their loved ones while trying to solve these clandestine incidents.
