‘Idle Chatter, Volume Two” is a compilation of opinion columns I published in the Mount Ayr, Iowa, Record-News newspaper between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018. (The previous 12 months were chronicled in Volume One of this series.)Many columns pertain to people, places, and things specific to Ringgold County, of which Mount Ayr is the county seat. Unfortunately, readers unfamiliar with the county or with rural southern Iowa in general may be puzzled by such references. To remedy this problem, I sincerely invite anyone to visit the county for an introduction to these special people, places, and things.Other topics reflect my own eclectic interests, research, and experiences – sports, travel, music, movies, social media, family, history and our culture in general. Plus, as you might imagine, many of the articles deal directly with the tumultuous political atmosphere so prevalent during that 12-month period. Future readers may find these references quaint or mildly amusing.
