Synopsis

When one prayerfully embarks upon this well-worth-it journey into a deeper study of God’s Word, one will see that when the CoC’s false interpretations, mere speculations and man-centered doctrines are put to the test at this pinnacle of divine revelation....all that went down AT THE CROSS…including the penitent thief’s salvation....its false gospel crumbles into a million pieces.

There is NOTHING more important than knowing, believing, and loving the true gospel of Jesus Christ. And the sum and substance of the true gospel is Christ and Him crucified (1 Cor. 2:2). Even Jesus’ resurrection, and all other spiritual blessings, are contained in Him and what He actually accomplished at the cross (Heb. 13:20). He has always been the resurrection and the life (Psa. 16:10, Jn. 11:25-26). And the penitent thief savingly believed it (Lk. 23:42)!

Jesus officially obtained redemption and died BEFORE the thief (Heb. 9:12). So, the New Covenant was immediately in force upon the thief BEFORE he died…“For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead; otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth” (Mt. 26:28, Heb. 9:16-17).

But the CoC adds to Scripture when it falsely claims the New Covenant didn’t go into effect until after Jesus’ resurrection. For nowhere in those verses does it even imply that a covenant goes into force AFTER one’s resurrection from the dead! Instead, they reveal that it immediately goes into effect after one’s death. NOT after one’s resurrection from the dead!

The CoC artificially inserts Jesus’ resurrection into those verses to try to protect it’s “new laws” of salvation that allegedly went into effect at Pentecost. Thus, its unbiblical obsession and false view of Acts 2:38 and Hebrews 7:12. But the CoC cannot reconcile its so-called “different terms” of salvation (a different gospel) with the fact that the gospel of the Old Testament is the SAME GOSPEL of the New Testament (Isa.53:1, Jn. 12:38, Rom. 3:30; 10:16, Gal. 3:6-8).

Documented interactions with CoC leaders all confirm that when this crux of redemptive history is brought up, the CoC’s hyper-dispensational, two-gospel heresies really begin to manifest, which often go undetected until they are brought to this touchstone….where they are ground to powder.

God’s truth shines even brighter against the CoC’s backdrop of darkness!!

The retro-activity of the New Covenant alone proves that the thief was saved the same way (thru faith) and upon the same basis (by God's grace thru Christ) that every sinner throughout redemptive history has ever been saved. Regardless of the two different dispensations that he lived under, and regardless as to whether John baptized him or not. For the essential content of God’s eternal redemptive purpose has NEVER changed. It transcends any given dispensation!!

The torn veil at the very moment of Jesus' death also proved the New Covenant was fully in force and the Old Covenant was obsolete (Mt. 27:50; Mk. 15:38; Lk. 23:45, Heb. 10:20-22). And since Jesus' atonement was timeless, it covered the entire realm of time itself. So God's covenant of grace incorporates all believers into His kingdom; past, present and future (Gal. 3:17). Therefore, the eternity of the cross, especially in relation to the penitent thief, is an exemplary testimony of how God REALLY saves, which destroys every false religious system in the world!
